TO HOOK OR NOT TO HOOK
MY FUNNY PUMPKIN
Happy Monday... wow, October 1st already, can`t believe it, where oh where did September go?????? Well, I come to the conclusion my hooking sucks. My wonderful Sis-in-Law taught me the old prim art of rug hooking this Spring, she bought me the old hook, started me off with a piece of burlap, wool and told me to draw a picture and away I hooked. She has made so many great mats, rugs, love them all. Took me awhile but I finished my first one, o.k. all you talented hookers out there, hold back on the laughter.....I`m trying, I`m trying. Started on another, wanted a little Welcome mat, well, it welcomed it`s way into the garbage. Now with Fall here I wanted to try to hook a pumpkin, well, kinda looks like a pumpkin, Ha!!!!! So..... not to sure but I guess I should keep trying, maybe will get better with each loop, hope so, do enjoy hooking but....... Enjoy this first day of October my friends, Warm Blessings Francine.
francine, i think your little hooked pumpkin is very nice and primitive. im hoping in my case it just takes practice. i need to stick with it because every time i dont hook for a bit and start up again its like i forgot everything...i do enjoy it tho i just have to many different things going at once... anyway i love your hooking! so enjoy!!
OK Girl, Relax! You are doing fine. It does take practice and you learn something new with each project. I don't think my first project was ever shown to anyone!! Find a piece of burlap and use it to practice. Practice turning a corner, making a swirl, getting your loop heights fairly even. After a little practice you will develop your own rhythm and technique and it will be wonderful.
Practice makes perfect! You are doing fine Francine, one of the advantages of primitive rug hooking there is no right or wrong...keep up the good work. Love the Fall header! Blessings, Julie.
Francine, I love your pumpkin and first mat!!! They are wonderfully primitive!! You only get better with practice. Just like Kim said, over time you will develop your own style, and that's what makes this art form so wonderful!! ~Cammie~
I know how you feel ~ I'm trying my hand at punch needle! Very nice creations ~ I'm sure we both will get better in time! Keep practicing! Prim Blessings Robin
Oh Francine, I would love to learn rug hooking. I am trying my hand at punch needle like Robin and I must say each piece I have done looks a little better. I still have a long way to go on improving. Don't give up. Love the kitty and the pumpking also. Being prim lovers nothing has to be perfect. Have a great evening. Angela
It looks wonderful. I should show you my first snowman. Oh my gosh, you would die laughing. It sort of looks like a white clump in a sea of red. I have so many hooking things that I started and I just put away. The more you hook the easier it becomes. I remember thinking that I will never get it and every rug I still can't get my loops even but who cares, it is so much fun. I like your bunny too.
Francine you should see my first one...hey I think I will do a post and show that..if I can find it. You did a great job for just starting. Very cute! Earlene
Francine maybe you sould ask some of your hooker friends to see the first pieces they did. You might be surprised. At least you are trying your hand at something new. You are welcome to come sit on my deck and I will serve you the pumpkin spice coffee and cookies.
Gosh I think you did just fine. All of us "seasoned rug hookers" have rugs we dont like. You will get better...and, if you enjoy it, dont let anything stop you. I personally dont hook much on burlap anymore because its much harder for me to have much control...maybe try some monks cloth ? Seriously dear, you will get better but you really have done very well...I like your pumpkin and I love your bunny...I have been hooking for almost a decade and guess what? I still mkae mistakes and that particular day I was so frusterated that I almost chucked it....but, I just tore out the parts I didnt like and redid it and now its lovely. My advice...stick with it and you will get better and dont worry about perfection (its overrated).
Hi. Thanks for stopping by my blog and following. I'm now a follower of your. I think the "hooking" is cute, even though I'm not really sure what "hooking" is... Maybe I'll have to read a little more on your blog and find out!
So, what's wrong with it:) I think it looks great. Especially for a beginner. I can't imagine what a pumpkin would look like if I tried it. Probably a rotten one. Ha ha. Good job Francine. I am proud of you for trying. -Steph-
Well, I've never tried it but it looks GREAT to me! My cross stitch is still lacking in skill but I keep trying. You keep trying too and I'm sure you'll be happier with your crafting.
Francine ~ Like everyone has said, it does get easier over time. I struggled for a LONG, LONG time. You are doing fine. Keep up the good work. Hugs :) Lauren
Oh dear Francine...! You are too dear! I can relate...but in reverse. I would have no hesitation in showing my "first" hooked piece (in fact, the crow piece in my recent post "Woolie Woolens" was the only the second piece I ever hooked...), but...alas, the one I am working on now? Ummmm...not so much. Seems like I learn "in reverse." ???? Don't know.... But, truly, and seriously, each "artist" lends their own interpretation to the craft...some do it more precisely, some more rustically, etc. As the other "seasoned" experts have said, you will find your groove....and sometimes, you will need to walk away. But, if you are a true hooker, you WILL come back...and embrace your quirks. I think you're doing wonderfully. Your first one is especially reminiscent of the vintage hooked rugs that have become quite the rage!! Keep on hooking Girlfriend! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
