DRYING TIME

Morning Prim Folk,  Happy Friday to you all!!!!!!  Cold this morning, guess Old Man Winter is here to stay. Had more snow two nights ago, beginning to look a lot like Christmas...........I had been  drying  out some orange and apple slices, I would like to hang them on the tree this year, love the simple look. But mine seem to turn dark where I have seen pictures of nice brighter dried fruit, any suggestions  out there????  I did mine in a oven on low for a few days, any better way?............Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, Blessings Francine.

  5. Wonder if you would put lemon juice on them before you dry them? Dianntha

  6. I always soaked mine in bottled lemon juice with a little salt.Let the apples soak about 6 minutes then dry slowly in the oven. The oranges should dry naturally on low. Warm Blessings! Amy

  7. Hi Francine...I just finished drying a batch of apples and oranges too...For apples I soak them in a solution of lemon juice and salt for twenty minutes...off to the dehydrator they go...I bought my dehydrator at Walmart twenty years ago, best friend a crafter can have and it is not expensive and you can buy additional trays...Hope this helps...

  17. I would try the lemon juice! I used to have a dried fruit garland and loved it. It had bay leaves and cinnamon sticks and red check bows interspersed with the fruit. Stay warm and enjoy your weekend!

  18. Thanks for posting this Francine, I wasn't aware of the lemon juice/salt tip. I dried my last batch in the oven low and slow but sprinkled with cinnamon so they ended up dark anyway but ohhhh do they smell good! Did an all natural tree one year - LOVED IT! ~*~Lisa

  19. Hi Francine, love the idea of a natural tree.I was wanting to do one myself but dreaded the thought of drying the fruit.I 've tried it before but it was not a pretty result.LOL! Stay warm and looking forward to seeing more of your decorations.Blessings,Jen

  20. I think your dried fruit looks good!
I like to stick to natural decor too,
then you can just throw it away.
I use to soak my fruit in a disolved Vitamin C before drying.
I'm not sure if it helps the colour or not!
